A Trip to the Old West
Some fun facts about Prescott:
- Established in 1864, Prescott served as the territorial capitol of Arizona until 1867 and then again from 1877 until 1889.
- The buildings were originally constructed of wood, but after the town burned to the ground in 1900 the downtown section was rebuilt with brick.
- Prescott is home to the world’s oldest rodeo, begun in 1888 and still held every July 4th weekend.
- More than 500 buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Thanks to concerned citizens, Prescott’s beautiful Victorian homes and historic hotels have been restored and preserved for future generations.

Located on Whisky Row, the Palace is the oldest bar and restaurant in Arizona. During territorial days, Doc Holiday, the Earp Brothers, and Big Nose Kate were frequent visitors.
The original 1880s Brunswick bar at the Palace was rescued by patrons during the great fire. Legend has it they dragged the bar and a couple of kegs of beer across the street to the Courthouse Square, where they continued drinking while the town burned. |
